As monarch butterflies begin their fall migration, Claudia Galeno-Sánchez of Chicago is working to protect them by converting her home into a sanctuary for the insects. She has planted native milkweed and wildflowers to support the butterflies and shares her experience to encourage others to help. Her efforts come as monarch populations face pressure from habitat loss and climate change during their annual journey.
Why now: Monarch butterflies are currently migrating south for the fall, drawing attention to conservation efforts.
