The US Department of Justice is seeking criminal charges against Cassidy Hutchinson, the former Trump White House aide whose testimony about January 6 was central to the Capitol attack investigation. According to the Guardian, prosecutors are pursuing charges against Hutchinson despite her having given key evidence to the January 6 committee. The move is drawing scrutiny over whether it amounts to retaliation against a witness.

Why now: People are reacting to the apparent contradiction of the DoJ targeting a witness who provided pivotal testimony against Trump, raising retaliation concerns.
