Fort Hood Shooter's Execution to Be Public and Streamed Live
Original: Fort Hood Shooter's Execution Will Be Public and Streamed Live, Pentagon Says
The Pentagon says the execution of the Fort Hood shooter will be carried out publicly and streamed live, a rare step for a US military execution. The announcement is drawing attention because federal and military executions have historically been conducted behind closed doors, and broadcasting one raises questions about transparency, victims' rights and the optics of a state-sanctioned killing being shown to a mass audience.
Why now: Live-streaming a military execution would be unprecedented, making the Pentagon's announcement highly unusual and newsworthy.
