California regulators are moving to stop a fighting robot company from staging cage matches between humans and machines. The state appears to be targeting events where human fighters face robots in physical combat, raising questions about safety rules and whether existing law covers this kind of spectacle. The story is drawing attention as a strange collision of entertainment, robotics, and regulation.
Why now: Regulators taking on robot fighting events is an unusual and eye-catching clash between new technology and old rules.
