Gardener cuts open surprise volunteer hybrid tomato

Original: cut open one of the funny hybrid tomatoes today. 🍅 this plant came up all by itself. i suspect it is a cross between one

A gardener cut open a mystery tomato that grew up by itself in their garden, suspecting it is a natural cross between a cherry tomato and a San Marzano given by a neighbour. The fruit is three to four times the size of a cherry tomato, still small, and reportedly slices well. Homegrown volunteers like this often produce unpredictable hybrids, making the harvest a small but delightful surprise.

Why now: Volunteer hybrid tomatoes are a fun surprise for gardeners, and the fruit's unusual size and shape sparked sharing.
