Tens of thousands of mourners have marched through Madrid in tribute to a Spanish pensioner whose eviction triggered nationwide housing protests. The wave of anger over the case grew so large it culminated in the calling of early elections. Demonstrators are framing the march as both a farewell and a demand for urgent action on Spain's housing crisis.
Why now: The pensioner's eviction became a national symbol of Spain's housing crisis, and the resulting protests led to early elections, keeping the story at the centre of public attention.
