Ohio Blogger on Trial for Meme Mocking State Senator

Original: Ohio political blogger on trial for mocking a Republican Ohio state Senator after he lost his bid to become Senate presi

An Ohio political blogger is on trial after sending a mocking Shrek meme to a Republican state senator who lost his bid to become Senate president. The case has drawn criticism because the judge who signed the arrest warrant is described as a friend and donor of the senator, raising concerns about political retaliation and law enforcement being used to punish satire.

Why now: The trial is seen as a free speech test case involving an elected official allegedly using the courts against a critic.
