Montgomery County schools link enrollment drop to immigration enforcement
Original: MCPS acknowledges immigration enforcement's roll in declining enrollment
Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland have acknowledged that federal immigration enforcement is playing a role in the district's declining enrollment. The school system's statement suggests some families may be withdrawing children or leaving the area due to fears tied to enforcement activity, raising concerns about student attendance and school funding in the suburban Washington district.
Why now: Immigration enforcement under the current administration is affecting school communities, and the district's public acknowledgment is notable.
