Alberta overrides Edmonton infill housing rules
The Alberta government has overridden Edmonton's rules on infill housing, stepping into municipal planning authority in the provincial capital. The move is expected to affect how the city manages density and new home construction in established neighbourhoods. Local officials and residents are weighing in, with debate centring on provincial powers versus city control over housing and zoning decisions.
Why now: The province intervening in a city's zoning decisions is a significant clash over municipal authority amid ongoing housing supply debates.
