Johor shuts all schools as haze blankets region
Original: malaysia haze
Malaysia's Johor state has closed all schools as hazardous haze from regional forest and land fires blankets the area, disrupting hundreds of thousands of students. Attention has turned to neighbouring Singapore, where residents are monitoring deteriorating air quality and debating whether schools there should follow suit. A Yahoo News Singapore poll asking whether the city-state should also shut schools has drawn wide engagement, reflecting public anxiety over health risks.
Why now: Cross-border haze has worsened sharply, prompting school closures in Johor and health concerns in Singapore.
