Hiroshima skips announcing first-round pick days before NPB draft

Original: ドラフト

Days before the NPB amateur draft, the Hiroshima Toyo Carp have made the unusual decision not to publicly announce their intended first-round pick, something the club last did five years ago. Reports link the move to Shoiki Oda of Yokohama, considered a once-in-20-years talent, who has yet to decide between NPB and MLB and is expected to declare his direction on the 15th. Meanwhile, top prospects are dropping demands about draft order, saying they will sign with any club that takes them under control.

Why now: The draft is imminent and surprise moves by Hiroshima and undecided star prospect Oda are shaking up predictions.
