Trump awards nation's top science prizes to major tech donors
Original: President Trump awards big tech donors with nation's highest science prizes https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/08/president-
President Trump has presented the United States' highest science honors to several leading technology executives and donors, drawing criticism that the awards are being used to reward political financial backing rather than scientific achievement. Commentators are questioning whether the traditional independence of the prizes, long regarded as the nation's top scientific recognition, is being undermined by the ties between recipients and the president's campaign donors.
Why now: The apparent link between large political donations and the nation's highest science honors is raising concerns about the politicization of scientific awards.
