Original: nidal hasan

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the public will be able to watch the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major behind the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people. Hasan, who is on death row, has appealed his case for years. Interest has surged across Europe and North America, with debate over holding the first US military execution in decades being broadcast.

Why now: Pete Hegseth's announcement that the Fort Hood shooter's execution will be open to the public is new and provocative news.
