Original: Prison riot in Mexico's violence-plagued Sinaloa state kills 10 and leaves 16 injured
A riot at a prison in Mexico's Sinaloa state has left 10 people dead and 16 others injured. Sinaloa is the heartland of Mexico's drug trade and has seen surging violence since a power struggle broke out within the Sinaloa Cartel. Authorities have not detailed what triggered the unrest inside the facility or the condition of those hurt.
Why now: Deadly prison violence in Sinaloa draws attention because the state is engulfed in cartel infighting that has made its jails notoriously unstable.
