A Friday news roundup circulating in the UK highlights sailors on Britain's £4bn nuclear submarines reportedly being trained to fend off drones using fire hoses, alongside claims that government borrowing costs have hit a 19-year high, £5.5m a day is being spent on asylum hotels, and Norfolk taxpayers face a bill of up to £29.8m for asylum accommodation. Commenters are using the list to argue Britain is financially strained and poorly prepared militarily.

Why now: The combination of high defence spending and cuts to services fuels frustration about the UK's economic and military state.
