Hegseth proposal to livestream execution condemned
Original: Execution TV? Pete Hegseth has taken the once ‘greatest democracy’ to a horrific new low
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has proposed livestreaming the execution of Nidal Hasan, the convicted Fort Hood shooter, by firing squad. Critics, including Guardian columnists, say the move drags American democracy to a new moral low and reflects the Trump administration's broader disregard for human dignity, turning state killing into public spectacle.
Why now: The proposal to broadcast a state execution on television has sparked outrage over the ethics of spectating government killing.
