US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that a firing squad execution—the first in the United States since World War II—will be broadcast live to the public. The decision has drawn intense attention and debate in Japan and abroad, with critics questioning the ethics of streaming an execution and supporters framing it as transparency. It would mark a historic return to public execution methods.
