EU paid $113.5 billion extra for energy imports, Greenpeace says
Original: Same oil & gas... but for a much bigger bill. EU countries have paid over US$113.5 BILLION EXTRA for energy imports sinc
Greenpeace says European Union countries have paid more than 113.5 billion US dollars extra for oil and gas imports since the war on Iran began, for the same volumes of fuel at sharply higher prices. The campaign group is urging governments to shield households from the bill shock and accelerate investment in domestically produced wind and solar power to cut dependence on imported fossil fuels.
Why now: Renewed conflict in the Middle East has pushed up energy import costs, reviving debate over Europe's fossil fuel dependence and the speed of its renewables transition.
