Critics fault NFL broadcasters for framing Deshaun Watson as redemption story

The Athletic argues that broadcasters calling Cleveland Browns games are wrong to present Deshaun Watson's return as a redemption arc. Watson remains a divisive figure after multiple sexual misconduct allegations led to a lengthy NFL suspension, and the piece says commentators glossing over that history misserve viewers. The criticism has reignited debate over how broadcasts should handle Watson's comeback with the Browns.
Why now: Broadcasters' sympathetic framing of Watson during Browns coverage is drawing fresh criticism from fans and journalists.
