Berlin SPD chief Krach warns Left Party coalition talks could collapse
Original: steffen krach
Steffen Krach, leader of Berlin's SPD, has publicly warned that coalition negotiations with the Left Party could fail. 'Then this coalition will not come about,' he said, in an unusually blunt threat directed at the Left as talks over a potential governing alliance continue in the German capital. His comments raise pressure on the Left to make concessions and signal that the SPD is prepared to let the negotiations collapse rather than meet their demands.
Why now: Berlin's coalition talks are at a tense stage and Krach's open threat to the Left Party signals a possible breakdown.
