German startup bets on magnetic cooling technology
Original: Meet the German startup giving cooling a magnetic makeover
A German startup is developing cooling systems based on magnetism rather than traditional refrigerant gases, in what it presents as a more energy-efficient and climate-friendly approach to refrigeration. Magnetic cooling, based on the magnetocaloric effect, could cut emissions from air conditioning and refrigeration, sectors whose growing energy demand is a rising climate concern.
Why now: Interest in cleaner alternatives to conventional refrigerants and energy-hungry cooling is growing as climate concerns mount.
