Food assistance providers in West Virginia's coal country say hunger is worsening in their rural community following cuts made under the Trump administration. Volunteers and organisations on the front lines of feeding neighbours describe unprecedented challenges, blaming decisions made in Washington. Critics online are framing the cuts as punishing the poor while benefiting the wealthy, adding to ongoing debate over the administration's social spending reductions.

Why now: Trump's budget and programme cuts are under scrutiny for their impact on food insecurity in poor rural areas.
