German post compares Merz-era politics to Anslinger cannabis scare tactics

Original: RE: https:// mastodon.social/@Karl_Theodor/ 117145774184501626 Lieber Herr # Merz - 🚨 In einer Zeit des 🪖 # Rechtsruck g

A German-language post addresses CDU leader Friedrich Merz directly, arguing that today's political climate is marked by a rightward shift, economic insecurity, migration and racism. It draws a parallel to Harry Anslinger, the US anti-drug official who used media campaigns in the 20th century to portray cannabis as a threat, suggesting similar fear-based tactics are being used now. Engagement so far is small, with only a handful of likes.

Why now: Ongoing debate in Germany about the political right, migration policy and Merz's leadership is prompting historical analogies about fear-driven campaigns.
