Streaming of Nidal Hasan execution by firing squad confirmed for December 3
Original: Punto Informatico: Alla fine, anche l’esecuzione in streaming ci sembrerà normale Il plotone sparerà a Nidal Hasan il 3
The US Defense Secretary has confirmed that the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former army psychiatrist convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will take place by firing squad on December 3 and be transmitted via streaming. Italian outlet Punto Informatico argues that live-streamed executions risk becoming normalized, framing the decision as a troubling precedent in how death penalties are consumed as media events.
Why now: The unprecedented decision to livestream an execution is raising debate over the ethics and normalization of broadcasting state killings.
