South African UN Gaza investigator wins 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

A South African serving as a UN investigator into Gaza has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The announcement draws attention to the committee's choice of someone involved in probing the conflict, a decision likely to spark debate given the political sensitivity of Gaza-related investigations and ongoing divisions over the war.

Why now: The Nobel Peace Prize announcement is a major global news event, and this year's choice of a Gaza investigator is politically contentious.
