Debate renews over Bluesky, Nostr and ActivityPub 'protocol wars'
Original: @ everton137 https:// hamishcampbell.com/i-find-it-l ess-messy-to-talk-about-the-protocol-wars-of-bluesky-nostr-activert
Writer Hamish Campbell has published a piece arguing that the competition between decentralised social protocols — Bluesky's AT Protocol, Nostr and ActivityPub, which powers Mastodon and the fediverse — is best understood through the differing cultures behind each network. He contends Bluesky emerges from surveillance capitalism, while Nostr and ActivityPub carry more grassroots, community-driven origins, a framing drawing attention among fediverse users.
Why now: Ongoing tension between decentralised social networks over which open protocol should replace corporate platforms keeps the comparison in active discussion.
