Backlash grows against datacenter plan in former IBM town
Original: ‘This is not an anti-tech town’: backlash to datacenter in city once home to IBM https://www. theguardian.com/us-news/20
Residents of East Fishkill, New York — a community long tied to IBM — are pushing back against a proposed datacenter, but locals insist their opposition is not a rejection of technology itself. Critics cite concerns typical of such projects, including energy demand, water use and the scale of the facilities, as the town weighs its industrial future.
Why now: Datacenter expansion is drawing community resistance across the US, and this fight in a historic IBM town crystallises that tension.
