Original: # Malaysia # Indonesia # SoutheastAsia Malaysia shuts schools as haze from Indonesian fires chokes Southeast Asia Kuala
Malaysia has closed schools as thick haze from forest fires in Indonesia blankets parts of Southeast Asia. Kuala Lumpur's Air Pollutant Index shows air quality at unhealthy levels, forcing authorities to act to protect children. The seasonal smog, driven by fires often linked to land clearing in Indonesia, is once again disrupting daily life across the region and drawing renewed attention to cross-border pollution.
Why now: Transboundary haze has reached unhealthy levels, prompting school closures and public concern.
