Granit Xhaka gets probation in fake COVID-19 vaccination document case

Original: covid-19

Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka has received a probation sentence in a case concerning a fake COVID-19 vaccination document. The Switzerland captain, who plays his club football in Germany, avoided a heavier penalty over the matter. The case has drawn wide attention given his profile as one of the country's most prominent footballers.

Why now: A high-profile footballer receiving a criminal sentence in a pandemic-era case is newsworthy.
