After 37 years of silence, Wallace and Gromit's silent beagle Gromit will speak for the first time, with Martin Freeman providing his voice for the audiobook of Gromit's autobiography. The Guardian reports the character, historically expressive only through raised eyebrows, will sound notably like Freeman's hobbit persona. Fans of Aardman's claymation duo are reacting to the surprising choice to break one of animation's longest-running traditions.
Why now: A beloved character famous for never speaking is getting a voice after decades, which is a major surprise for fans.
