Original: 'Abolish ICE': Mamdani, AOC and other Democrats urge action after New York shooting https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/
Zohran Mamdani, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other Democratic figures are calling for ICE to be abolished following a shooting in New York. They argue the incident shows the agency's enforcement operations endanger the public, renewing a push by the party's left wing to dismantle immigration enforcement and reigniting debate within the Democratic Party over immigration policy.
Why now: The New York shooting has reignited Democratic criticism of ICE and the wider immigration enforcement debate.
