RSF opens new front from Ethiopia amid Sudan war escalation
Original: RSF preps new front from Ethiopia, pummels Blue Nile; In Kordofan, RSF conducts ‘field’ executions, digs in heels at Nuhud; Dagris prison dispute stalls registry; Gov’t criticizes UN fact-finding renewal
Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces are reportedly preparing a new offensive front from Ethiopian territory while pounding Blue Nile state. In West Kordofan, the RSF is said to be carrying out field executions and fortifying its position in Nuhud. Separately, a dispute over the Dagris prison has stalled a prisoner registry, and Sudan's government has criticized the UN's renewal of its fact-finding mission on the country.
Why now: Escalating RSF offensives and reported executions are heightening fears of a wider, more brutal phase of Sudan's civil war.
