Chicago hotel workers strike during marathon weekend
Original: Chicago hotel workers strike as marathon weekend brings thousands to the city
Hotel workers in Chicago have gone on strike just as the city's marathon weekend brings thousands of visitors needing rooms. The timing is significant: the influx of runners and spectators puts pressure on hotels at one of their busiest stretches of the fall, giving workers added leverage. The walkout centers on labor conditions in the hospitality industry, and it threatens to disrupt stays for out-of-town guests during a major civic event.
Why now: The strike coincides with one of Chicago's busiest tourist weekends, maximizing its impact and visibility.
