JWST image shows galaxies warped by gravitational lensing

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has captured a view of the galaxy cluster MACS J0454.1-0300, seen as it was about 8 billion years ago. The cluster's enormous gravity bends spacetime, stretching and multiplying the light of more distant galaxies behind it, an effect known as gravitational lensing, producing golden warped arcs across the image.
Why now: A striking new JWST image showcasing gravitational lensing is being shared by space science outlets.
