The Athletic's NBA newsletter, The Bounce, examines the state of the league's games in China, where the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks are playing preseason contests. The edition also previews the upcoming seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics as the 2026-27 NBA campaign gets underway. It recaps where the NBA's once-lucrative China relationship stands years after tensions froze most of the league's business there.
Why now: The NBA is staging preseason games in China again, reviving debate over the league's fraught business relationship with the country at the start of a new season.
