Critics mock Republican election claims with 'Democratic Republic' joke
Original: After republicans steal the election, USA should be renamed to Democratic People's Republic of USA like Democratic Peopl
A comment circulating on social media argues that if Republicans, led by Donald Trump, were to 'steal' the US election, the country should rename itself the 'Democratic People's Republic of USA', in reference to states like North Korea and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, whose official names include democratic terms despite widely criticised governance. The remark uses irony to accuse the Republican Party of undermining democracy.
Why now: Ongoing political debate and accusations around the fairness of the US election are prompting sarcastic commentary about Republicans and democracy.
