Umar Khalid's International Human Rights Award reignites debate

Original: Umar Khalid को International Human Rights Award मिलने से फिर छिड़ी बहस | Salaam TV Original

Former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, jailed in a Delhi riots conspiracy case, has been given an International Human Rights Award, prompting renewed public debate in India. Supporters see the honour as recognition of his activism and what they call prolonged unjust detention, while critics argue he faces serious charges and question the award. The issue has again divided opinion along political lines.

Why now: Khalid remains a polarising figure in Indian politics, and any award to him while his case is pending sparks strong reactions on both sides
