Trump criticises Nobel committee after peace prize goes to human rights lawyer
Original: Trump swipes at Nobel committee after peace prize awarded to human rights lawyer
Donald Trump criticised the Norwegian Nobel Committee after it awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to a human rights lawyer rather than to him. Trump had openly campaigned for the prize, touting his role in brokering ceasefire agreements, and reacted angrily to being passed over, renewing debate over whether his diplomatic claims merited the honour.
Why now: The Nobel Peace Prize announcement contradicted expectations that Trump would win, prompting his public rebuke.
