US military plan to livestream an execution draws scrutiny
Original: How the US military plan to livestream an execution compares with global practice
The US military is preparing to livestream an execution, a step that has prompted comparisons with how other countries carry out and publicize capital punishment. Observers are weighing the plan against global practice, where executions are rarely broadcast, and debating what transparency in state killings would mean for the United States' standing abroad.
Why now: A livestreamed US military execution would be unprecedented and puts American capital punishment under international comparison.
