YouTube, Meta and Twitch silent on live-streaming a US execution
Original: YouTube, Meta, and Twitch won't say if they'll allow the US government to live stream an execution https://www.theverge.
The Verge reports that YouTube, Meta and Twitch are refusing to say whether their platforms would allow the US government to live stream an execution. The question comes as authorities consider broadcasting a capital punishment, raising issues over each platform's content policies on graphic violence and state-sanctioned killing. None of the three companies has offered a clear answer on whether such a stream would violate their rules.
Why now: A government execution being potentially live-streamed on major platforms raises unusual questions about content moderation and state transparency that people find striking.
