Criminals hide in Zapopan because of its safety, says Alarcón
Original: joaquín lópez-dóriga
Roberto Alarcón, mayor of Zapopan in Jalisco, Mexico, said criminals are taking refuge in his city precisely because of its levels of security. The remark drew attention and criticism, since Zapopan sits in the Guadalajara metropolitan area where criminal groups remain active. Comments spread on Mexican social networks questioning whether safety can explain the presence of criminals there.
Why now: The Jalisco mayor's paradoxical claim that crime hides in Zapopan because of its safety sparked debate in Mexico.
