Trump administration eases political event rules for DOJ appointees
Original: Trump administration relaxes rules around political events for Blanche, other Senate-approved DOJ appointees
The Trump administration has relaxed ethics rules restricting political activities for Senate-confirmed Justice Department appointees, including Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. The change loosens Hatch Act-style limits that traditionally bar senior officials from participating in partisan events, allowing appointees greater freedom to attend and take part in political gatherings while in office.
Why now: The loosening of ethics restrictions on senior justice officials is drawing attention over concerns about the politicisation of the Department of Justice.
