Original: 🟠 UPDATE JD Vance Questions Military Execution of Nidal Hasan Pete Hegseth proposes a public execution for Nidal Hasan,
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has proposed a public execution for Nidal Hasan, the US Army major behind the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, prompting Vice President JD Vance to publicly question how the military would carry out such a sentence. The proposal has drawn criticism from observers who say a public execution would echo practices associated with Iran's use of the death penalty as a public spectacle, intensifying debate over capital punishment in the US military.
Why now: A senior US official's proposal for a public execution and the vice president's visible reservations have sparked controversy over American death penalty practices.
