Xiaomi has announced HyperOS 4, which introduces cross-device integration between Xiaomi phones and iPhones. Users will be able to share photos, files, contacts and web pages, access cloud photo albums on both devices, sync notifications in both directions, and reply to messages from either phone. The move narrows the gap between Android and Apple ecosystems, a space Apple has largely kept closed, and is drawing attention among mobile users and tech commentators.
Why now: Xiaomi's new cross-platform interoperability with iPhones challenges Apple's closed ecosystem, which is notable news for smartphone users.
