Donzelli clashes with Conte over Scarpinato photo row

Original: scarpinato

Brothers of Italy MP Giovanni Donzelli attacked Giuseppe Conte over a photo showing Carmelo Scarpinato, Italy's newly appointed attorney general, alongside judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. Quoting the Gospel, Donzelli said 'And Judas was next to Jesus', implying Conte's criticism of the photo was an attack on the anti-mafia judiciary and fuelling a fresh political fight.

Why now: Scarpinato's appointment as Italy's top prosecutor has sparked a heated political dispute over his image with the slain anti-mafia judges.
