The NBA has issued a statement defending its second apron rule after New York Knicks guard Bruce Brown said the salary restriction 'sucks' for middle-class players. The league argued the spending limit promotes competitive balance across teams. Brown's comments have reignited debate among players and analysts over whether the apron unfairly penalises role players and mid-level free agents.
Why now: An active player publicly criticised a high-profile league rule, prompting an official NBA response.
