Zelenskyy furious as Trump announces deal to buy Russian diesel

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reacted with fury after Donald Trump announced a deal for the United States to buy Russian diesel. The announcement, reported by The Guardian, has drawn criticism given the ongoing war in Ukraine and Western sanctions aimed at cutting off Moscow's energy revenues. Critics say purchasing Russian fuel undermines Kyiv's position and funds the Kremlin's war effort.

Why now: A US deal to purchase Russian diesel would contradict Western sanctions policy and directly affect Ukraine's war effort, making it highly contentious.
