MEP claims US payments are funding Russia's war on Ukraine

Irish MEP Chay Bowes has accused the United States of effectively giving Russia more money to wage its war against Ukraine, saying his political group is being used as a smokescreen. He called the arrangement "absolutely unfair, absolutely not a partnership," and a weak decision by nominally strong partners. The remark adds to ongoing debate in Europe over whether continued Western purchases and payments flowing to Moscow undercut sanctions and the war effort.

Why now: Claims that US money is still reaching Russia despite the war in Ukraine are fueling anger and debate among European politicians and audiences.
