World Jewish Congress chief condemns Navi Pillay Nobel Peace Prize pick
Original: World Jewish Congress President Lauder Condemns Selection of Navi Pillay for Nobel Peace Prize
Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, has publicly condemned the selection of Navi Pillay, the former UN human rights chief from South Africa, for the Nobel Peace Prize. The organisation says it strongly objects to her being honoured. The criticism is likely to fuel wider debate over the prize's choice of laureate.
Why now: A prominent Jewish organisation openly attacking the Nobel committee's Peace Prize pick makes the award itself newly controversial.
