NASA issues long-awaited call for private space stations

Original: NASA issues long-awaited call to industry for private space stations https://arstechnica.com/space/2026/10/nasa-issues-l

NASA has formally issued its long-awaited request to industry for proposals to develop commercial, privately operated space stations. The move is meant to ensure a successor platform exists before the International Space Station is retired near the end of the decade. Space industry observers are watching closely, as the decision will shape which companies win funding and how US human presence in low Earth orbit continues.

Why now: The ISS retirement is approaching, so the future of US human spaceflight in low Earth orbit depends on these commercial replacements.
